The Forty Putney Road Bed & Breakfast is a warm, classically appointed 6-room bed & breakfast located just north of Brattleboro's downtown area. Constructed in 1931 as the residence of the superintendent of the Vermont Lunatic Asylum for the Insane (now called the Brattleboro Retreat), its French Baronial architecture gives it the appearance of an elegant French chateau overlooking the Retreat Meadows, the scenic mouth of the West River.

Rooms are pleasantly decorated and well appointed, and all have private baths. A full breakfast is served daily by the owner. Amenities include a hot tub, a cozy, on-site pub with a billiards table, and a pretty garden with access to the path leading to the Retreat Meadows.

For travelers arriving by train, Forty Putney is best reached by a very short cab ride from the station. All downtown dining options are easily and quickly accessible by foot from the B&B.

Meadowlark Inn

The Latchis Hotel

The Latchis Hotel is a 30 room, full-service hotel located in the center of downtown Brattleboro. Built in 1938, much of this landmark's original art deco style has been retained over the years. The Colonial Motel  

 

The Colonial Motel is a large complex with rooms set far back from the busy commercial strip along Putney Road. Camping Options

Fort Dummer State Park

Located in the southern foothills of the Green Mountains, the forest is more like those of southern New England than like a typical Vermont forest. Southern tree species such as white, red, and chestnut oaks, dominate the hardwood forest, which also contains beech, maple, yellow birch, and white birch.

The campground has 50 tent/trailer sites and 10 lean-to sites. These are located in two adjacent areas and are served by two toilet buildings, both with hot showers ($). There is a sanitary dump station, but no hookups. Also located within the park are a small picnic area, hiking trails and a large open field.

Open: Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. 2-night minimum stay required.

Hidden Acres Camping Resort

Located 4 miles north of downtown Brattleboro, this full-service campground offers a number of amenities, including an on-site store, pool, clean bathrooms and showers, Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities.

Brattleboro North KOA Campground

Located 5 miles north of downtown Brattleboro, this KOA offers large RV and tent sites with grills, tables, and shade trees over grass lawns. In addition, there are five quaint cottages, each with a private bathroom, linen service, and cable TV; and two rental trailers that can sleep up to six or eight. Amenities include a game room/TV/computer lounge, swimming pool, playgrounds, laundry, camp store, gift shop, Wi-Fi, and a 40'x 60' fenced pet park. Walker Farm is next door for fresh produce and baked goods.
